12 year old "ruins Art for everyone"
The setting: the Detroit Institute of Arts
The Art: Helen Frankenthaler's "The Bay"
The crime: Art critique goes too far.
On an outing to the Institute, a school-boy was apparently so offended by "the Bay" that the took the gum from his mouth and stuck it to the bottom left hand corner of the 1.5 million dollar painting.
"It wasn't even finished" said a security guard witness, presumably referring to the gum which left a chemical residue about the size of a ten cent piece. The painting was otherwise unharmed.
